MANILA, Philippines- Nakatakdang makakuha ng free Wi-Fi program ng gobyerno ng karagdagang P3.681 bilyong pondo para masiguro ang patuloy na implementasyon nito.
Sa katunayan, pinahintulutan ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM) ang pagpapalabas ng karagdagang budget sa Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) para mapanatili ang implementasyon ng Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP) sa buong bansa.
Inaasahan na ang naturang pondo ay mapakikinabangan ng 13,462 Access Point sites sa iba’t ibang lokasyon sa buong bansa.
“By approving this additional budget within our calibrated fiscal program, we reaffirm our commitment to prioritizing inclusive and accessible internet for all,” ayon kay Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.
“As mandated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., we will ensure that every citizen,saan mang sulok ng Pilipinas, makikinabang sa ating digital transformation initiatives,” dagdag na pahayag ng Kalihim.
Bahagi ng FPIAP ang “building and maintaining of ICT infrastructure such as towers, data centers, and internet connections.”
Layon nito na panatilihin ang connectivity sa mga pampublikong lugar gaya ng eskwelahan, libraries, parks, at transportation hubs, at bigyan ang mga Pilipino ng “reliable internet services.”
Gamit ang karagdagang pondo, umaasa si Pangandaman na maayos na maipagpapatuloy ng DICT ang ‘fund disbursement’ at mapabibilis ang implementasyon ng programa.
Ang karagdagang pondo ay huhugutin mula sa Special Account sa General Fund – Free Public Internet Access Fund (SAGF-FPIAF) para sa FY 2024.
