MANILA, Philippines – Iginiit ni Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson nitong Sabado, Pebrero 28 na kailangan pang beripikahin ang kredibilidad ng source at mga impormasyon kaugnay sa mga alegasyon ng mga dating miyembro ng Philippine Marine Corps na nag-deliver umano ng mga maleta sa ilang indibidwal.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ni Lacson na ang imbestigasyon ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee sa umano’y cash delivery scheme sangkot ang mga dating militar ay magiging evidence-driven.
“As chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, I have not changed my position about being led by evidence and guided only by a prudent and logical approach in treating any information that comes to my attention — to evaluate and validate the credibility and reliability of both the source and the information itself before taking action,” ani Lacson.
Nag-isyu ng pahayag ang senador bilang reaksyon sa pahayag ni Iglesia Ni Cristo spokesperson Edwil Zabala, na nananawagan ng accountability sa flood control corruption scandal.
Ang tinutukoy ni Zabala ay ang mga pahayag ng 18 dating military personnel, na anila ay nagpatunay ng cash delivery scheme sangkot ang ranking officials.
Nilinaw ni Lacson na bagamat patuloy niyang kinikilala ang INC at “forever grateful” sa suporta nito sa kanyang senatorial bids noong 2001, 2007, at 2016, nanindigan ito sa ibang posisyon sa naturang isyu.
“I have nothing but respect for the INC and will forever be grateful for the times they supported me, particularly in three of the six election campaigns I joined, four of which I won,” sinabi ni Lacson.
“Let me emphasize that having a different opinion does not imply disrespect,” dagdag pa niya.
Nauna nang pinuna ni Lacson ang dalawang aspeto ng mga alegasyon ng ex-Marines at sinabing kailangan pa itong busisiin dahil sa aniya’y mathematically irreconcilable ang mga kickback na ipinadala at tinanggap ng mga personalidad.
Duda rin ang senador sa timing ng press conference na itinapat sa ika-40 anibersaryo ng EDSA People Power Revolution at sa pagdinig ng International Criminal Court sa war on drugs ng Duterte administration.
“We will first evaluate the source of the information, which in this case are the 18 alleged former Marine personnel who appeared at a press conference last Tuesday,” ani Lacson.
“Second is the reliability or credibility of the information itself—meaning the content of their affidavit,” saad pa sa pahayag nito noong Huwebes.
Noong Martes, inakusahan ng 18 ex-Marines ang ilang indibidwal na tumanggap umano ng cash mula kay dating Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co.
Sinabi rin ng mga ito na si Co at si dating senator Antonio Trillanes IV ay nagpondo ng hotel accommodations ng ICC investigators na bumisita sa bansa.
