MANILA, Philippines- Hinimok ng teachers’ group nitong Martes ang Civil Service Commission na suspendihin ang implementasyon ng bagong dress code para sa mga guro, sa pagsasabing hindi ito akma sa mainit na panahon ng bansa at dagdag gastos din umano para sa educators.
Rekisitos sa Memorandum Circular No. 16, s. 2024 ng CSC na magsuot ang government employees ng ASEAN-inspired attire tuwing unang Lunes ng buwan at Filipiniana-inspired attire tuwing ikalawa hanggang ika-apat na Lunes.
Subalit, iginiit ng Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) na ang revised dress rules para sa public school teachers ay “impractical” dahil sa kakulangan ng sapat na bentilasyon sa maraming public schools maging “physical demands” ng kanilang tungkulin.
“While we recognize the intent to promote cultural identity and professionalism, we respectfully assert that this specific mandate poses significant challenges, particularly for public school teachers,” giit ni TDC National Chairperson Benjo Basas.
“Teachers are not stationary; most of us are constantly moving from one classroom to another or even from one building to another. Unlike many office personnel who perform their tasks in air-conditioned offices, teachers endure extreme heat, especially during the hottest months,” dagdag niya.
Binanggit din ng grupo na naglatag na ang Department of Education ng partikular na uniporme para sa mga guro na nakahanay sa kanilang professional identity.
Ani Basas, ang bagong dress rules “would render these uniforms obsolete and force teachers to shoulder additional financial burdens to comply.”
“In light of these considerations, we respectfully appeal for the suspension of this policy’s implementation or, at the very least, the adoption of practical modifications. Specifically, we request that public school teachers be exempted from the requirement to wear ASEAN or Filipiniana-inspired attire every Monday,” wika niya.
Gayunman, sinabi ng TDC na bukas ito sa diskusyon sa CSC upang tugunan ang isyu.
“While the CSC stated that the circular may be implemented within a six-month period, many schools and offices have already compelled their teachers and staff to wear ASEAN-themed attire yesterday, January 6,” anang grupo. RNT/SA
