VETERAN Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco dared the Marcos administration to demonstrate that its anti-corruption drive is impartial, applying equally to all regardless of political affiliation and kinship.

His remarks follow the statement of the Office of the Ombudsman that its case against former Speaker Martin Romualdez would be bolstered by testimonies from several key individuals.

Among them were ex-Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan, who could shed light on the circumstances surrounding the implementation of flood control projects, and former bodyguards of resigned Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Elizaldy Co, whose accounts were reportedly consistent with other evidence already gathered by investigators.

“If the administration truly has no involvement in these corrupt practices, then it should be all the more resolute in holding accountable its allies—or even relatives—who may have exploited their close ties to the government to defraud the Filipino people.”

Those who orchestrated and masterminded what he described as the “biggest corruption scandal in our country’s history” must ultimately face justice, he said.

New school buildings, covered courts opened

The Tiangco brothers – Mayor John Rey and Rep. Toby – led the opening, as part of Navotas’ 19th Cityhood Anniversary celebration, of new school buildings and newly-renovated covered courts aimed at strengthening access to quality education and providing safer, more functional community spaces for residents.

The classroom buildings were located at Tangos Elementary School I and Tanza Elementary School while the covered courts in Barangays Tangos South and San Roque.

“Education remains one of our top priorities because it empowers our youth and shapes the future of our city. Likewise, our covered courts will strengthen community engagement and provide residents with safe and functional venues for various activities,” the city chief executive said.

Meanwhile, the Navotas lawmaker cited the importance of sustained infrastructure development in supporting the needs of the growing population.

“By investing in schools and community spaces, we are investing in the future of our children and the overall well-being of our communities.”

‘We will strive to continue to bring programs and projects that create lasting benefits for our people,” he added.
