MANILA, Philippines – Umabot na sa P14.35 trilyon ang utang ng Pilipinas sa pagtatapos ng buwan ng Agosto, ayon sa Bureau of Treasury nitong Lunes, Oktubre 2.
Ang kabuuang halaga ng utang ng bansa ay tumaas ng P105.28 bilyon o 0.7% mula noong Hulyo, “primarily due to the peso depreciating from 54.834 to 56.651 against the US dollar.”
“Peso depreciation against the US dollar caused a P146.85 billion upward revaluation of US dollar-denominated debt in August, although partially offset by the P22.11 billion downward revaluation of the third currency debt component.”
Sa total debt stock, 31.8% ang foreign borrowings habang 68.2% ang hiniram domestically.
Ang domestic debt sa katapusan ng Agosto ay nanatili sa P9.79 trilyon.
Samantala, ang foreign debt ay pumalo sa P4.56 trilyon, na mas mataas ng 2.9% o P126.52 bilyon. RNT/JGC
