MANILA, Philippines – Itinaas ang watawat ng Pilipinas sa Sandy Cay, kasunod ng naging pahayag ng China na nakuha na nila ang kontrol sa lugar.
“This operation affirms the Philippines’ sovereignty over the cays located within 12 nautical miles of Pag-asa Island, Municipality of Kalayaan, Palawan, in the West Philippine Sea,” saad sa pahayag ng Armed Forces of the Philippines.
“The flag-raising debunks the statement published by China Coast Guard (CCG) on April 25, 2025, claiming control over Pag-asa Cay 2. Philippine authorities believe CCG’s photo does not reflect the current situation in the area,” dagdag pa.
Isinagawa ang flag raising ng Joint Task Unit-Pag-asa na binubuo ng Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard at Philippine National Police-Maritime Group kasabay ng inter-agency maritime operation sa Pag-asa Cays 1, 2, 3 at 4.
Matatandaan na sinabi ni Chinese coast guard spokesperson Liu Dejun na may anim na tauhan mula sa Pilipinas ang illegal na pumasok sa Sandy Cay sa kabila umano ng mga “warnings and dissuasion” mula sa China.
Ani Liu, pagkatapos nito, ang mga tauhan ng Chinese coast guard, “boarded the reef and investigated and dealt with it in accordance with the law.”
Wala nang ibinigay pa na ibang impormasyon ang tagapagsalita ng CCG.
“We urge the Philippines to immediately stop its infringement,” sinabi ni Liu, at idinagdag na ang mga aksyon “violated China’s territorial sovereignty.” RNT/JGC
