MANILA, Philippines – Kinuwestiyon ni House Assistant Majority Leader at Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong ang Facebook post ng beteranong mamamahayag na si Ramon Tulfo kung saan iniugnay umano ang relihiyon ng mga suspek sa krimen.
Sa pahayag noong Pebrero 22, nagbabala si Adiong laban sa pagdadawit sa Islam sa mga ulat-krimen, dahil maaari itong magdulot ng diskriminasyon laban sa mga Muslim na Pilipino. Binigyang-diin niya na ang pananagutang kriminal ay personal at hindi dapat iugnay sa isang buong relihiyon.
“Crime is committed by individuals. It is never committed by a religion. To highlight a suspect’s faith when it has no relevance to the alleged act is irresponsible and risks reinforcing discriminatory stereotypes that Muslim Filipinos have endured for generations,” aniya.
Ayon kay Adiong, ang Islam, tulad ng iba pang pangunahing relihiyon, ay nagtataguyod ng kapayapaan at katarungan.
“The acts alleged have nothing to do with Islam. They do not represent the values of our faith nor the character of the millions of Muslim Filipinos who live peacefully and contribute to our nation every day,” dagdag ng miyembro ng “Young Guns” bloc.
Pinaalalahanan din niya ang mga public figure at personalidad sa media tungkol sa bigat ng kanilang impluwensiya.
“As leaders and personalities with influence, we must exercise restraint and discernment. Words matter. Careless references can inflame prejudice, sow division, and unfairly cast suspicion on an entire religious community.”
Binanggit din ni Adiong na lumabas ang naturang pahayag sa panahon ng banal na buwan ng Ramadan, na sagrado para sa mga Muslim.
“Our zeal for justice must never become an excuse to blacken the religion of millions of Filipinos, especially during a time that calls for spiritual renewal and peace,” aniya.
Iginiit din niya na kung may kapani-paniwalang impormasyon tungkol sa krimen, dapat itong idulog sa tamang awtoridad at hindi ilahad sa paraang maaaring maglagay sa panganib sa mga komunidad.
“If there is actionable information, it must be coordinated with the proper investigative agencies. Public discourse should not be used to generate attention at the expense of the dignity and safety of our fellow Muslim Filipinos,” sabi pa niya.
Nanawagan si Adiong ng pagiging patas at may paggalang sa mga pampublikong talakayan, at iginiit na ginagarantiyahan ng 1987 Constitution ang malayang pagsasagawa ng relihiyon at pantay na proteksiyon ng batas.
“Justice must be pursued firmly—but always with fairness, responsibility, and respect for the dignity of every Filipino,” dagdag niya. RNT/MND
