MANILA, Philippines – Pinayagan ng National Food Authority (NFA) ang mas malawak na pamantayan sa pagbili ng palay upang matulungan ang mga magsasaka na kumita nang higit sa panahon ng anihan.
Ayon sa NFA, pinalawak ang moisture content para sa “dry palay” mula dating 12–14% patungong 11–14%, para mas maraming ani ang matatanggap at hindi ma-downgrade sa presyo.
Ang presyo ng palay ay nanatili sa P17/kilo para sa wet palay at P21/kilo para sa dry. Binago rin ang standard para sa peste: bibilhin na ang palay na “visibly free from pests.”
“As harvest peaks, prices tend to soften because of oversupply,” sabi ni NFA Administrator Larry Lacson.
“By widening our specifications now, we can absorb more volume and help farmers avoid distress selling. Every percentage point we adjust in moisture tolerance can mean more bags accepted and more income in farmers’ pockets.”
Ayon kay Agriculture Secretary Francisco Laurel Jr., layunin ng pagbabago na gawing mas accessible at competitive ang NFA sa mga magsasaka habang pinananatili ang kalidad ng palay at buffer stocks.
“We want farmers to be profitable, not perpetually vulnerable to price swings. A food-secure Philippines starts with farmers who earn fairly from their harvest,” dagdag niya. RNT/MND
