MANILA, Philippines — Hinimok ni Senator Risa Hontiveros ang Department of Health na imbestigahan ang naiulat na kakulangan sa human immunodeficiency virus drugs sa bansa, kasabay ng babalang maaaring malagay sa panganib ang people living with HIV kapag naputol ang kanilang gamutan.
Ayon kay Hontiveros, nakababahala ang mga ulat na napipilitan umano ang ilang HIV treatment hubs na mag-imbak ng antiretroviral o ARV drugs para sa kanilang mga pasyente dahil sa pagkaantala at kakulangan sa suplay.
“Health and lives are at stake here, so the government must act immediately to fill the shortage of ARVs and prevent People Living with HIV (PLHIV) from stopping treatment,” pahayag ng senador.
“They cannot be interrupted and must take ARVs every day to stay healthy,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi ni Hontiveros na kailangang tiyakin ng DOH na tutuparin ng supplier ang pangakong paghahatid ng ARV drugs at agad itong maipamahagi sa lahat ng treatment hubs.
“The priority now is to allay the fears of PLHIVs…All available contractual, legal and logistical remedies must be pursued to secure the government-procured medicines,” ani Hontiveros.
“Someone must be held accountable for the delay and the delivery of the medicine must not take any longer,” dagdag ng mambabatas.
Hinimok din ni Hontiveros ang PhilHealth na pabilisin ang pagproseso ng claims para sa Outpatient HIV/AIDS Treatment, linawin sa treatment hubs kung paano magagamit ang OHAT upang hindi maputol ang gamutan, at tiyaking walang PLHIV ang matatanggihan ng paggamot dahil sa pagkaantala sa pondo o papeles.
Ayon sa senador, dapat ding magbigay ang pamahalaan ng malinaw at transparent na updates sa mga apektadong komunidad, pagbutihin ang forecasting at procurement, palakasin ang inventory monitoring, at padaliin ang inter-hub redistribution kung kinakailangan.
“The mandate of the Philippine HIV and AIDS Policy Act or Republic Act No. 11166 that we passed is clear: HIV treatment and care must be free, accessible, continuous and dignified,” ani Hontiveros.
“The ongoing shortage of ARVs should not be shrugged off. PLHIV should not have their lifeline cut off just because of a system deficiency that should have been addressed,” dagdag niya. RNT
