I’VE been fortunate to explore some of Europe’s most iconic cities, yet one destination still remains on my bucket list: Prague. Years ago, my dear friend Marilyn De Mesa invited me to visit this enchanting city. Now, after hearing her vivid and captivating stories from her latest trip, I can only imagine the irresistible charm that Prague holds. With its historical grandeur and timeless beauty, Prague has truly become a destination I long to explore in the near future.
Prague, the capital city of Czechia, welcomed 5.8 million international visitors in 2023 (the entire Philippines had 5.45 million foreign visitors in the same year). Known as the “Mother of Cities,” Prague is celebrated for its rich history and stunning architecture.
Marilyn’s stories of her European adventures were always fascinating, but her tales of Prague stood out with vivid detail. From the picturesque streets leading to the famous Infant Jesus shrine at the Church of Our Lady Victorious to the sweeping views from the majestic Prague Castle, overlooking the tranquil Vltava River, every part of the city came to life through her words. It’s no surprise that Prague, with its historic Charles Bridge—standing tall for over 650 years—remains a photographer’s dream.
While I’ve marveled at the vibrant culture of Paris, the ancient splendor of Rome, the serene landscapes of Bern, and the refined elegance of Brussels, Prague offers a different kind of enchantment—a city that seems to belong in a fairy tale. Marilyn’s captivating stories about the medieval charm of Český Krumlov and the aristocratic ambiance of Karlovy Vary only heighten my desire to experience the magic of Prague firsthand. Its cobblestone streets, historic castles, and unique blend of history and beauty promises unforgettable experiences around every corner.

As I reflect on my travels across Europe, Prague now feels like the next chapter—a city where I can immerse myself in its rich cultural heritage, enjoy its delicious traditional dishes, and explore its iconic landmarks. I look forward to the day when I, too, can be captivated by the beauty of Prague, a city that has inspired artists and thinkers like Alphonse Mucha and Franz Kafka. This journey through the heart of Europe is one I cannot wait to embark on.
