MANILA, Philippines – Mariing kinondena ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) nitong Sabado, Hunyo 21, ang panibagong insidente ng pambabato ng water cannon ng China Coast Guard (CCG) sa dalawang barko ng Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) malapit sa Bajo de Masinloc, Zambales—isang hakbang na tinawag ng PCG na malinaw na paglabag sa batas.
Ayon kay PCG spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Commodore Jay Tarriela, ang insidente ay naganap sa layong 15.6 hanggang 18.1 nautical miles mula sa Bajo de Masinloc, na bahagi ng exclusive economic zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas.
“I would like to inform you that this is outside the territorial sea of Bajo de Masinloc and this falls within our own exclusive economic zone,” ani Tarriela sa Saturday News Forum sa Quezon City.
“Basically, it’s only around 106 to 110 nautical miles from the coastline of Zambales.”
Punto niya, may karapatang maglayag at mangisda ang mga Pilipino sa lugar, alinsunod sa Philippine Maritime Zones Act, United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), at sa 2016 Arbitral Award na pumabor sa Pilipinas.
“I don’t know the law that gives the authority for the Chinese government to claim sovereignty over these waters,” dagdag ni Tarriela.
Binuweltahan ng PCG ang alegasyon ng CCG na lumalabag umano ang Pilipinas sa soberenya ng Tsina.
Anila, ang deployment ng BFAR vessels ay bahagi ng inisyatiba ng administrasyong Marcos para tiyakin ang seguridad at kabuhayan ng mga Pilipinong mangingisda sa West Philippine Sea.
Ang mga barkong BFAR—BRP Datu Tamblot at BRP Datu Taradapit—ay sinabuyan ng tubig ng mga CCG vessel 4203 at 3105 habang nagsasagawa ng resupply mission sa mga mangingisdang Pinoy malapit sa Scarborough Shoal.
“As far as the Philippine government is concerned, our behavior and our deployment of BFAR and Coast Guard personnel in these waters is in alignment with the Philippine Maritime Zones Act, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the 2016 Arbitral Award,” giit pa ni Tarriela.
Tiniyak rin ng PCG na magpapatuloy ang misyon ng BFAR. “As we speak right now, the BFAR vessels are already on their way to Sual, Pangasinan and some areas in the West Philippine Sea,” aniya.
Ang insidenteng ito ay panibagong patunay, ayon sa mga opisyal, ng agresibong pag-uugali ng China sa pinagtatalunang karagatan, bagay na patuloy na binabatikos ng pamahalaan ng Pilipinas. RNT/JGC
