MANILA, Philippines- Iginiit ng progresibong grupo na Bayan Muna nitong Linggo na dapat ilaan na lamang ang confidential funds sa Philippine Coast Guard.
Nagresulta ang diskusyon sa confidential funds at kung paano ito ino-audit sa pagtitiyak ng House leaders na kakalusin ang confidential funds mula sa ilang ahensya, kabilang ang Office of the Vice President at Department of Education.
Humirit ang OVP at DepEd, kapwa pinamumunuan ni Vice President Sara Duterte, ng kabuuang P650 milyong confidential funds para sa 2024.
Kasunod ng public pressure, inaasahang ilalaan na lamang ang confidential funds sa PCG at iba pang ahensyang nagbabantay sa West Philippine Sea.
Sinabi ni Bayan Muna chairperson Neri Colmenares na dapat i-realign ng Kamara ang pondo bilang “additional budgetary item to the PCG for more assets and ships to patrol the [West Philippine Sea]” subalit hindi bilang confidential funds, na sasailalim sa audit subalit mananatiling confidential.
“In fact, it would be better if Congress realigns Duterte’s [Confidential and Intelligence Fund] to the budget of state universities and colleges or free tuition programs of the government or other social services,”pahayag ni Colmenares.
Halos 30 state universities and colleges ang nahaharap sa P6.155-billion cut sa proposed budget para sa 2024. RNT/SA
