MANILA, Philippines – Nanindigan ang kampo ni Vice President Sara Duterte na hindi nagbago ang kanilang posisyon sa kabila ng hakbang ng House of Representatives na iakyat ang impeachment case sa susunod na yugto.
Ayon kay defense team spokesperson Michael Poa, nananatili ang paniniwala nila na “the [impeachment] complaints suffer from a fundamental defect.”
Ito ay matapos ideklarang “sufficient in grounds” ng House Committee on Justice ang mga reklamo, na magbubukas sa pormal na paglilitis.
Ngunit iginiit ni Poa na ang hakbang na ito ay “is merely preliminary” at “is not a determination of truth, nor is it a finding of liability.”
Dagdag pa niya, “They are built on conclusions, speculation, and narratives that are not anchored on the ultimate facts required under the Constitution and the Rules.”
Sinabi rin niya na “being advanced are accusations in search of evidence, not evidence in support of accusations.”
Ayon sa Kamara, nagpasya silang ituloy ang proseso dahil umano’y hindi nasagot ng kampo ni Duterte ang mga alegasyon sa kanilang isinumiteng sagot.
Nilinaw ni Poa na dalawang punto lamang ang binigyang-diin nila, kabilang ang umano’y “double standards” sa pagtrato sa kaso ni Duterte kumpara sa kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Iginiit din ng kampo ng bise presidente na may motibong pulitikal ang mga impeachment complaint.
“Ultimately, the process must be governed not by any political agenda, but by the Constitution, the rules, and credible and competent evidence. On that basis, the defense stands on firm ground,” ani Poa. RNT/MND
