NAVOTAS City Rep. Toby Tiangco is pushing for the adoption of a measure that aims to stabilize markets and protect vulnerable sectors from the adverse effects of rising fuel costs.
House Bill 8715, which seeks to provide immediate economic relief by imposing a temporary freeze on increases in residential and micro, small and medium enterprises or MSME commercial rental rates, allowing the deferment of housing loan payments without penalties, authorizing emergency loans from the Social Security System and Government Service Insurance System, and declaring a moratorium on the accrual of interest on government loans.
Based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority and the Department of Energy, the proposed interventions are designed to help temper inflationary pressures, projected to exceed four percent while providing regulatory clarity and enforceability through the appropriate government agencies, he explained.
He noted that MSMEs, which account for 99.6 percent of businesses nationwide, are among those most affected by the fuel crisis.
The proposed measure also authorizes government agencies and their subsidiaries to partner with duly registered transport providers to deliver free public transportation during national or local emergencies, ensuring continued mobility for the riding public.
Toby’s reply to Acidre
With all due respect to Rep. Jude Acidre, the veteran legislator said the former could have quickly forgotten that some of those who signed the first impeachment complaint have confirmed doing it in exchange for getting funds for AICS, AKAP and TUPAD.
“Yung sinabi ko naman na kaya pinirmahan ang first impeachment ay dahil sa mga insertions ng infrastructure projects, proven na din yun. Hindi ba’t nakasuhan na si Zaldy Co at inirekomenda ng Department of Public Works and Highways at Independent Commission on Infrastructure na sampahan ng kasong plunder si former Speaker Martin Romualdez?”
To be clear, Tiangco said he’s not an ally of the Vice President.
“But unlike them, I am not scared of a Sara Duterte presidency because I can be accountable to any President. Hindi ko kailangang sumipsip sa kahit sinong Presidente. I can work with any President I agree with and oppose a president I don’t agree with,” he said.
