MANILA, Philippines — Nananatiling target ng Senado na simulan sa Hulyo 6 ang impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte sa kabila ng masinsinang pagmamarka ng mga ebidensya sa kasalukuyang pre-trial proceedings.
Ayon kay Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr., na nagsisilbi ring clerk ng Senate impeachment court, masikip man ang iskedyul ay hindi pa rin imposibleng masunod ang itinakdang petsa ng paglilitis.
“July 6 is still the date of the start of the trial proper of the impeachment case,” ani Bantug.
“It may be difficult on the part of the court…but at this point, July 6 as the start of the trial proper is not yet an impossibility. Tight but not impossible,” dagdag niya.
Ipinagpatuloy noong Hunyo 22 ang pre-trial proceedings matapos itong buksan noong Hunyo 18. Ipinaliwanag ni Bantug na tumatagal ang proseso dahil sa dami ng dokumentaryong ebidensya na kailangang markahan para sa Articles I at II ng impeachment complaint.
Umaasa ang Senado na makukumpleto ang proseso sa Hunyo 25 alinsunod sa impeachment calendar, kabilang ang paglalabas ng pre-trial order.
“Obviously, we cannot issue a pre-trial order until all documents are marked, until the pre-trial is complete,” ani Bantug.
Samantala, sinabi ni Mamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Representative Leila de Lima, isa sa mga prosecutor ng Kamara, na nagdagdag sila ng mga team at pinalawig ang oras ng trabaho mula alas-9 ng umaga hanggang alas-7 ng gabi upang mapabilis ang pagmamarka ng mga ebidensya.
May kaugnayan naman sa kahilingan ng prosecution panel na buksan ang selyadong kahon mula sa Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) na naglalaman ng mga dokumentong may kaugnayan sa buwis ni Duterte, sinabi ni Bantug na wala pang malinaw na tuntunin para rito at kailangan pa itong pag-usapan kasama si Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian at iba pang senador.
“There’s no set and definite rule for that, but it’s something I have to discuss with the Senate President, and I’m sure he would also consult the other members of the Senate on how to best address the issue on the box,” aniya. RNT
