Malabon launches ‘Efipanio Delos Santos Gawad ng Parangal

THE administration of Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval has launched the ‘Epifanio Delos Santos Gawad ng Parangal (EDS Award) to honor his legacy and contributions to the city where he’s born and raised and the country as well.

Sandoval said several individuals were recognized and awarded during the event held recently at the Rizal Park Hotel led by eight outstanding residents “who had shown excellence and dedication in their respect fields and inspired the local government to improve the delivery of services to the people.”

A total of 79 agencies, organizations and individuals were recipients during the ‘Gabi ng Pasasalamat 2024’ ‘for their unwavering support to the city government’s programs created to improve the lives of the residents.’

“We have named this award after Efipanio Delos Santos, who was a renowned historian, journalist, writer, politician and a civil servant who was born and raised in Malabon,” said Sandoval, who was also cited by the RP-Mission and Development department as one of the 2023 Outstanding Public Servants and Top NCR (National Capital Region) Mayor.

According to Sandoval, the awards were aimed at recognizing the ‘Malabuenos’ who have shown compassion and love for the country and the city through their various expertise and efforts “just like Epifanio delos Santos.”

Delos Santos (April 1, 1871-April 18, 1928) was considered a local hero in Malabon for his dreams and goals for the country’s freedom and independence.

He served as a representative in the Malolos Congress and became the first governor of the province of Nueva Ecija.

The Mayor stressed that the outstanding Malabuenos were cited for their great contributions in the business sector, culture and arts, education, environment, social welfare, cultural innovation, and contemporary Filipino arts.

Those awarded were businessman Ernesto Chua Co Kiong, high school teacher Reynaldo Agustin, artistic director Anthony Cruz, Musikong Bumbong founder Lt. Col. Gilbert Ramos, Malabon Concert Singers Choir Master/Conductor Anthony Villanueva, Barangay Niugan councilman Ramoncito Arlegui, elementary school teacher Noel Agustin and contemporary artist Ronald Ventura.
