MALABON MAYOR HITS FAKE NEWS ON HOUSING PROJECT

MALABON Mayor Jeannie Sandoval has appealed to her constituents to be more vigilant amid the spread of fake news on social media, specifically targeting the city’s ongoing 11-storey mid-rise housing project in Barangay Tinajeros.

She ordered City Administrator Dr. Alex Rosete, concurrent City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD), to exert effort to identify those behind the fake news that were posted on Facebook.

“The local government would like to caution those that spread false information or fake news with the intent to cause harm or disruption that they may face legal consequences under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10175).”

The city chief executive was referring to the FB posts that falsely labeled the housing units as ‘overpriced.’

The post, shared on the FB page ’Malabon Lubog’ on February 4, claimed that units in the project were being sold for approximately P3,863,636 for 24 square meters.

The city’s first female mayor laughed off the ‘bogus news’ as she clarified that no official information regarding the project’s pricing has yet been released since the project is still under construction.

“I’m reiterating my appeal to my constituents to be more vigilant and responsible because not all we see and read through social media are true,” Sandoval said.

As for Rosete, he said that any information about the cost of the units circulating online is false and could lead to confusion and unrest among the people of Malabon.

He explained that the cost of each unit, if determined, will be decided by the City Housing and Tenants Security Committee and the Beneficiary Selection, Arbitration, and Awards Committee.

On January 24, the CHUDD relaunched its online housing application to make housing program registration more convenient for residents.

In 2024, the city housing department received a total of 18,816 registrations through the online housing application.

Residents may check the Malabon City Housing and Urban Development Department FB page for updates regarding its housing project, the officials said.
