CALOOCAN City Mayor Along Malapitan took time to inspect several public schools and hospitals to ensure their structural integrity amid reports of several strong earthquakes striking various parts of the country in the past few weeks.
With the concerned city departments, Malapitan told Good Riddance that he only wanted to make sure that they’re safe and structurally stable.
“We also conduct regular earthquake drills at the city hall and other public establishments, especially hospitals and schools to prepare my constituents in case an earthquake occurs.”
He likewise initiated a meeting with other department heads to ensure the city government’s preparedness in the event of an earthquake.
The youthful local chief executive and son of erstwhile long-time mayor and now District 1 Rep. Oca Malapitan said the city government has partnered with the Philippine National Police in conducting a seminar on bomb threat management, identification, detection, and first responder protocols.
“The seminar aimed to enhance preparedness, strengthen coordination, and ensure the safety of employees and the public in the event of similar threats,” the younger Malapitan said.
Navotas Business Conference kicks off
Navotas City has marked a historic milestone with the staging of its first-ever Navotas Business Conference held last Oct. 28–29, 2025, at the Navotas Convention Center.
Organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry–Navotas Chapter in partnership with the city government of Navotas, the two-day event gathered industry leaders, government officials, entrepreneurs, and innovators.
With the theme “Navotas Rising: Empowering Industries from Sea to City,” the conference aimed to provide a venue for discussing growth opportunities, innovation, and collaboration across Navotas’ major sectors.
“There’s a time when Navotas was known only for fish—our economy, identity, and life bound to the sea. But through the years, we have evolved into a diverse urban economy powered by trade, manufacturing, logistics, and services.”
“At the heart of it all is the Navotas Fish Port Complex, the largest in the country, supplying over 70% of Metro Manila’s fish,” Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.
Rep. Toby Tiangco, the mayor’s brother, underscored the city’s growing strategic importance and the vital role of businesses in uplifting local livelihoods.
“Navotas will soon be geographically positioned between the New Manila International Airport and the shipping ports. Instead of being at the edge of Metro Manila, we will become a center of economic activity,” he said.
