MANILA, Philippines – SINABI ni Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. na nagsasagawa ang military ng security measures para protektahan ang Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal habang pinalalawak ang pagpa-patrol sa maritime territory ng bansa.
Tanggap ni Teodoro na ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ay kapos sa sapat na assets para ganap na i-secure ang katubigan ng Pilipinas.
Tumanggi naman si Teodoro na talakayin ang operational details subalit sinabing ang pangalagaan ang pinagtatalunang shoal o bahura o iba pang maritime areas ay nananatiling core mission ng military.
“We are looking for different ways to achieve the objective of allowing our fishermen to freely sail and fish in Bajo de Masinloc (Panatag) as soon as possible,” ani Teodoro.
“In the meantime, while security arrangements are being carried out to secure Bajo de Masinloc, we have the responsibility to sustain the livelihoods of our fishermen,” aniya pa rin.
Aniya, hindi niya maibabahagi ang anumang detalye nang hingan ng detalye ukol sa security preparations.
“But what is our job if not to secure the territorial integrity and security of our Republic? That includes all of our areas,” ayon sa Kalihim.
Aniya, pinalalakas ng military ang patrols lampas ng West Philippine Sea.
“Our approach is 360 degrees because our maritime domain is vulnerable,” anito sabay sabing “We need to really double-time our efforts to secure our maritime territory.”
Gayunman, tanggap rin na Teodoro ang maritime assets ng bansa ay nananatiling kapos.
“It is not enough. I admit it is not enough, which is why we need to accelerate our efforts,” aniya pa rin.
Aniya, dapat panatilihin ng Pilipinas at hindi ng Tsina ang kontrol sa natural resources sa Bajo de Masinloc dahil ang traditional fishing ground ay nasa exclusive economic zone ng bansa.
Samantala, hinikayat naman ni Teodoro ang publiko na huwag paniwalaan ang Chinese disinformation kasunod ng sinabi ng mga Chinese scholars na ang Batanes ay isang “geographical extension of Taiwan.”
