MANILA, Philippines – Tinawag ng isang labor group ang P40 na pagtaas ng sahod sa minimum wage ng mga manggagawa sa Metro Manila na isang maliit na tagumpay para sa labor force.
“A PHP40 increase is a small yet significant step. It can cover the cost of a kilo of rice, with a peso or two added. We view it as a minor victory, and we prompt other Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards to expedite wage orders within their jurisdictions,” ani Federation of Free Workers (FFW) national vice president Jun Ramirez sa isang pahayag.
Ito ay matapos ipahayag ng National Capital Region (NCR) Wage Board noong Huwebes ang minimum wage rate adjustment sa rehiyon, mula sa kasalukuyang PHP570 hanggang PHP610 para sa mga non-agricultural workers.
Magkakabisa ang wage hike sa Hulyo 16, o 15 araw pagkatapos mailathala sa Hunyo 30.
Sa kabila ng halagang malayo sa kanilang inaasahang dagdag sahod na mahigit PHP100, sinabi ni Ramirez na kinikilala nila ang pagtaas ng sahod bilang “beacon of hope and a testament to the change that the united efforts of workers can manifested.”
“This should serve as a stepping stone towards our ultimate goal – a nationwide legislated wage hike of PHP150. We invite our members, workers, and the public to rally behind the higher wage proposal currently under review in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. This legislation is pivotal to substantially enhancing the economic conditions of our workers and their families,” aniya pa.
Hinikayat din ni Ramirez ang lahat ng manggagawa na palakasin ang kanilang collective bargaining power at isulong ang pagpapabuti ng kondisyon sa paggawa at sapat na sahod.
Sa kabilang banda, sinabi ni Ramirez na inaasahan nila ang patuloy na pakikipagtulungan ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) sa mga pagsisikap na ito. RNT
