MANILA, Philippines – Inaprubahan ng House of Representatives of the Philippines sa ikatlo at pinal na pagbasa ang panukalang magtataas sa mandatory retirement age ng mga miyembro ng Philippine National Police mula 56 patungong 57 taong gulang.
Nakakuha ang House Bill 8702 ng 233 boto pabor, walang tumutol, at isang abstention sa plenary session noong Martes.
Layunin ng panukala na amyendahan ang Section 39 ng Republic Act 6975 o Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990.
Ayon kay House Majority Leader at Ilocos Norte First District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, isa sa mga may-akda ng panukala, mahalaga ang pagtataas ng retirement age upang mapakinabangan pa ng PNP ang karanasan at kasanayan ng kanilang mga tauhan.
“Increasing the retirement age allows the PNP to maximize the government’s investment in training and professionalizing its officers,” ani Marcos.
“By retaining experienced personnel for an additional year, the organization benefits from their specialized expertise and institutional knowledge. This continuity is vital for the leadership and stability of law enforcement operations,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi rin ni Marcos, anak ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., na kaakibat ng panukala ang pagpapatupad ng Republic Act 11939 noong 2023, na nagtaas din sa compulsory retirement age ng mga miyembro ng Armed Forces of the Philippines mula 56 patungong 57 taong gulang. Santi Celario
