‘PAPA’ LAUNCHES ‘BATANG BUSOG MALUSOG’ IN PAYATAS

PRESIDENTIAL Adviser for Poverty Alleviation Secretary Larry Gadon has launched the ‘Batang Busog Malusog’  in Payatas, Quezon City with over 1, 200 kindergarten and elementary students in attendance.

The kick-off event was held at the Raymundo Punongbayan Elementary School where the students were provided with nutritious food items like oatmeal, milk and the ‘nutribuns’ which was introduced and became popular during the time of former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr., father of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.

The BBM Nutrition program was initially supported by the SM Foundation that provided oatmeal and milk and his office providing the nutribuns.

Gadon expressed optimism that his initiative would inspire and motivate other private companies to adopt the program as part of their corporate social responsibility.

He recalled when the President appointed him to the post telling him that he (Marcos) was more concerned with the upgrading on the living conditions of the poor Filipinos and proper care for the youth particularly those students from public schools.

He sealed the collaboration with the SM Foundation through a contract signing held late last month with SM’s Senior Vice President Head of Marketing Joaquin San Agustin and Assistant Vice President for Outreach Program Cristina Angeles and him representing the BBM program.

Earlier, the presidential adviser said that several big firms have already committed to support the government’s anti-hunger program.

“And we hope this launching of BBM Nutritional program would motivate them to follow suit and we welcome them.”

He clarified that no single centavo would pass through his office in the implementation of BBM program as only the companies that would pledge to adopt the schools where their feeding program would be undertaken and the school authorities would be involved.

“What I’ve wanted to happen here is that the companies must not only donate money and leave the feeding program to the school authorities, they must be the ones that will interact physically with the young students.”

“We hope that these companies will make the feeding program their long-term project since, anyway, this is part of their corporate social responsibility,” he added.

His office is not an implementing agency as it’ s primarily tasked to formulate policies and create programs and projects that it’ll recommend to the President.
