MANILA, Philippines – SINABI ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., araw ng Lunes, Marso 16, na dapat na ipagpatuloy ng Pilipinas na paghusayin pa ang imprastraktura para palakasin at gawing matatag ang tourism industry ng bansa.
Inihayag ito ng Pangulo sa isinagawang unveiling ceremony ng marker para pormal na pasinayaan ang Mactan Expo, matatagpuan sa loob ng The Mactan Newtown sa Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
“Our tourism industry is now under a great deal of pressure dahil sa mga nangyayari. And last year, we only welcomed six million people. Just to give you a frame of reference, Thailand welcomes 30 million tourists every year,” ayon sa Pangulo sa kanyang naging talumpati.
“Kaya malaki ang hahabulin natin,” aniya pa rin.
Ang mga pasilidad gaya ng Mactan Newtown ay isang “encouraging sign” ayon sa Pangulo.
“And I am excited to explore more ways to elevate Philippine tourism. Of course, Cebu will always play a very, very large part in all our plans for tourism,” winika nito.
Ang mga byahero aniya ay iginuhit sa mga destinasyon na madaling mapuntahan at makagagamit ng modernong pasilidad gaya ng Mactan Expo.
“And of course, the beauty that all of the Philippines is able to offer. But alongside that, our infrastructure must continue to improve so that every visitor’s experience becomes smoother and more memorable,” anito.
Idinagdag pa niya na kailangan ng gobyerno na magtayo ng mas marami pang pasilidad gaya ng Mactan Expo at palakasin ang imprastraktura upang mas masuportahan pa ang sektor ng turismo.
Ang pasilidad ay magho-host ng mga major events, kabilang na ang Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, kung saan ang Pilipinas ang uupong chairman ngayong taon.
Ang Mactan Expo ay dinisenyo para ipakita ang Cebuano culture at pagkakakilanlan nito habang pinalalakas ang meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) infrastructure ng bansa.
Inalala rin ni Pangulong Marcos ang pagbisita nito sa ibang lugar sa Indonesia kung saan nag-host ang nasabing bansa ng ASEAN Summit noong 2023, sinasabing ang pagbubukas ng 42nd ASEAN Summit ay isinagawa sa Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.
“I took a page out of President Widodo’s book. Everybody already knows Manila, and the PICC is very good, no problem. But let’s bring them to another place para makita naman nila,” ang tinuran ni Pangulong Marcos.
“We thought about where else we could bring them—Cebu, Davao, CDO—but some places still lack accommodation facilities. The only place that we could do it was here, in Lapu-Lapu City,” aniya pa rin.
Sinabi pa ng Pangulo na ang pasilidad ang nagpo-provide ng ‘major boost’ sa tourism industry ng bansa.
“We have to develop our tourism industry. We have such competition around our region. But we have a single advantage—and that is what we have come to call in the tourism industry here in the Philippines: the Filipino smile,” ang pahayag ng Pangulo. KRIS JOSE
