Manila, Philippines – Are national pageants Miss Universe Philippines and Miss Philippines one and the same?
Answer: no!
Miss Philippines, on the other hand, is a new national pageant.
With MP, layunin daw nitong i-reinvent ang pageantry.
Binanggit niya ang Miss World which has removed swimsuit event for many years now.
Pia also acknowledges the fact na may mga bansa whose candidates are not comfortable wearing swimsuits dahil sa kanilang relihiyon.
Sa kaso naman niya being a beauty pageant product, she perfectly understands where the judges are coming from.
Pinagsusuot daw sila ng swimsuit para malaman how well they take care of their body, and if they’re fit or active.
Nagsisilbi rin daw kasing role model ang mga kandidata based on their physique.
Ginamit ni Pia bilang halimbawa noong sumali siya sa MUP, “I was so skinny then but a judge came up to me na hindi puwede ‘yan kasi gagayahin ka, because you’re supposed to be a role model.”
But with the new pageant rules being adopted by MP ay pabor si Pia na goodbye swimsuit competition.
Katwiran ng ngayo’y Mrs. Jauncey, “If they think there’s a better, healthier way then I understand it from the point of view of seeing a candidate’s worth beyond her physique.”
