THE administration of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has every reason to rejoice these days for its efforts to keep good governance at par as shown by several recognitions and citations it gets from various public as well as private organizations.

Belmonte was just right when she picks among highly-dedicated and competent individuals, like City Treasurer Edgar Villanueva, who form part of her worth-emulating administration and who’ve been her constant partners that help gear the city towards real progress and quality living of most of her constituents.

Early this month, the city government under Belmonte’s stewardship has just been hailed as a Hall of Fame awardee for consistently ranking Top 1 in Locally Sourced Revenues among all cities in the country from 2020 up to 2024.

Given by the Department of Finance–Bureau of Local Government Finance, the recognition underscores the city’s sustained excellence in fiscal management, achieved under the Belmonte leadership.

Extra-delighted by the latest recognition, Belmonte said her administration has been banking on the full trust of her constituents which resulted in more efficient tax collection and fiscal management without the need of imposing new tax rates.

“With our strong commitment to innovation and good governance, Quezon City will continue to set the standard for efficient local revenue generation in the Philippines,” the city chief executive vowed.

Belmonte, Villanueva and City Assessor Sherry Gonzalvo accepted the awards – Top 1 in Locally Sourced Revenues among Cities, Top 6 in LSR to Total Current Operating Income, and Hall of Fame Award for Outstanding Revenue Performance – during DOF-BLGF’s recent 38th anniversary celebration.

For 2024 alone, the city government recorded ₱28.8-billion in locally sourced revenues that derived from real property taxes, business taxes, other taxes, and non-tax revenues.

“This is a dream come true for everyone in the City Treasurer’s Office, and a historic first for the Quezon City government to become a Hall of Famer,” Villanueva said.

“We attribute this milestone to the strong leadership and digital transformation initiatives of Mayor Joy Belmonte and City Administrator Mike Alimurung.”

To the spirited and energetic mayor and ‘Treas’ Ed, may your tribe multiply!
