MANILA, Philippines- Bukas si Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte na maimbestigahan sa sinasabing pagkakasangkot nya sa illegal drug trade.
Ang pahayag ay ginawa ni Duterte matapos ang ipinalabas na progress report ng House Quad Committee kung saan inirerekomenda na magkarooyon ng imbestigasyon laban sa kanya.
“I welcome any investigation to be conducted by an impartial and credible body, as I have nothing to hide. I remain committed to clearing our name and confident that the truth will expose the baseless nature of these accusations,” pahayag ni Duterte.
Matatandaan na ang pangalan ng kongresista at ang brother in law nito na si Atty. Manases Carpio ay idinawit ng Customs fixer na si Mark Taguba at dating Customs intelligence officer Jimmy Guban kaugnay sa nasabat na ₱6.4 billion shabu shipment noong 2017.
Sina Duterte at Carpio kasama si dating Presidential Economic Adviser Michael Yang ay inakusahang “drug smuggler” na mariin namang itinanggi ng mambabatas at sinabing walang basehan.
Iginiit ni Duterte na kung magkakaroon ng imbestigasyon laban sa kanya ay tiyakin na mayroong “credible evidence” dahil ang testimonya umano ni Guban ay base lamang sa “hearsay.”
“These testimonies, obtained under the guise of a witness protection program in exchange for furloughs, lack credibility and only undermine the integrity of any legitimate inquiry,” pagtatapos ni Duterte. Gail Mendoza
