MANILA, Philippines – Idineklara na ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Baguio ang state of calamity sa lungsod dahil sa epekto ng bagyong Egay.
Ang deklarasyon ay makaraang aprubahan ng konseho ang Resolution 494-2023.
Ito ay makaraang lumabas ang initial reported damage na P18,403,943 na tinamo ng lungsod pagdating sa electric distribution utility sa P5.39 milyon, pinsala sa imprastruktura sa P4.38 milyon, City Engineering sa P4.25 milyon, pinsala sa mga paaralan at learning materials sa P3.17 milyon, at pinsala sa mga pananim sa P1.2 milyon.
Bago rito, nauna nang nagdeklara ng state of calamity ang ilang mga probinsya sa Cordillera Administrative Region katulad ng Abra, Apayao, Benguet at Mountain Province.
“The CDRRMO (City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council) also reported incidents of 163 leaning/ fallen trees/ branches, 34 electrical concerns; 17 incidents of flooding; 14 incidents of soil erosion; five stranded people/ vehicles; 25 incidents of landslides; two clogged drainages; and one incident of medical/ trauma assistance,” saad sa resolusyon.
“With 75 out of the 128 barangays or 58.59 percent reporting critical incidents such as damage in house or properties, casualties and evacuees, the city meets the necessary qualification to declare a state of calamity,” dagdag pa.
Sa kasalukuyan ay patuloy pa ring nakararanas ng kalat-kalat na pag-ulan ang Baguio dahil sa habagat.
“Declaring a state of calamity is crucial to facilities’ access to additional resources, streamlines assistance efforts, and enables the city government to provide timely support to affected residents, businesses, and infrastructure. This is a necessary step that will empower the city government to address the immediate needs of the community and lay the groundwork for a comprehensive recovery,” pagtatapos ng resolusyon. RNT/JGC
