MANILA, Philippines – Tinitingnan ng Department of Justice (DOJ) ang posibilidad na hindi lamang simpleng kaso ng bullying ang pamamaril sa isang paaralan sa Tacloban City at maaaring may kaugnayan ito sa violent extremism.
“So there are also possibilities we’re looking into if it’s a form of extremism, specifically NVE or nihilistic violent extremism,” ayon kay DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez sa isang press briefing nitong Martes.
Ayon kay Martinez, sinusuri ng mga awtoridad kung may pagkakatulad ang insidente sa mga school shooting sa ibang bansa, kabilang ang Columbine High School shooting sa Estados Unidos noong 1999.
“Because children are very impressionable. What they see online, they could be easily radicalized. An example, perhaps, the Columbine shooting. You could be radicalized by that,” aniya.
Ang nihilistic violent extremism (NVE) ay isang uri ng terorismo na gumagamit ng matinding karahasan nang walang malinaw o tradisyunal na ideolohiyang sinusunod.
Binanggit din ni Martinez ang mga usap-usapan sa social media na isa umano sa mga suspek ay nakasuot ng itim na KMFDM shirt, na naiugnay rin sa ilang school shooting incidents sa Estados Unidos.
Sinabi niya na patuloy na bineberipika ng mga awtoridad ang edad ng dalawang suspek na pinaniniwalaang 14 at 15 taong gulang sa pamamagitan ng mga dokumento gaya ng birth certificates at dental records.
“The law enforcement will determine that as well based on available documentation, like birth certificates and dental records. And then, if appropriate and if warranted, file the appropriate criminal charges,” ani Martinez.
Dagdag pa niya, sasailalim din ang mga menor de edad sa isang intensive juvenile intervention program ng lokal na pamahalaan.
“This case will be treated in the same manner as all other cases filed with the DOJ. We understand the gravity of the situation. Of course, minors po ang involved din (are also involved),” aniya.
