MANILA, Philippines – Kinumpiska ng Land Transportation Office (LTO) ang 65 right-hand drive na mga sasakyan sa raid na isinagawa sa Cebu.
Kasabay nito ay naaresto ang isang Peruvian national na hinihinalang nag-aangkat ng illegal na mga sasakyan.
Ayon sa LTO, ang RHD vehicles ay tumutukoy sa mga sasakyan na ang driver’s seat at steering wheel ay nasa kanang bahagi ng sasakyan.
Nakumpiska ang mga ito sa pinagsanib na operasyon kasama ang National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at Special Envoy on Transnational Crime Ambassador Markus Lacanilao sa isang auto shop sa Talisay City, Cebu.
Ang operasyon ay batay sa intelligence report sa illegal na operasyon ng naturang auto shop na pinatatakbo umano ng isang dayuhan.
“During the operation, a female Peruvian national was held under custody after her name came out as the operator of the raided shop in Talisay City,” saad sa pahayag ng LTO.
Sinabi ni LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II na ang raid ay bahagi ng “aggressive operations” ng ahensya laban sa importation, assembly at pagbebenta ng RHD vehicles kasunod ng pagkakadiskubre ng tindahan nito sa Quezon City at tatlo sa Davao City, kung saan 40 RHD na sasakyan ang nakumpiska.
“These stores appear to be all connected,” saad sa kaparehong pahayag ni Mendoza.
“That is why Ambassador Lacanilao was here with us as part of the thorough investigation into this illegal activity because there were reports that this is run by at least one foreigner,” dagdag niya.
Sa inisyal na imbestigasyon, lumalabas na ang mga RHD vehicle ay iniimport at binubuo sa bansa bago tuluyang ibenta.
Ipinag-utos na ni Mendoza ang imbestigasyon sa LTO office sa Mindanao na inakusahang tumutulong sa pagpaparehistro ng mga sasakyang ito.
“We will hold all of them accountable based on the orders of our DOTr secretary. Right now, we are conducting a thorough investigation to identify all the people behind this,” ani Mendoza.
Sa ilalim ng Republic Act 8506, ang RHD vehicles ay illegal sa bansa, at sinasabing “It shall be unlawful for any person to import, cause the importation of, register, cause the registration of, use, or operate any vehicle with its steering wheel right-hand side thereof in any highway, street or road, whether private or public or of the national or local government.” RNT/JGC
