MANILA, Philippines- Inihayag ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) na halos 80 porsyento ng public utility vehicles (PUVs) sa bansa ang consolidated na sa ilalim ng kontrobersyal na PUV modernization program (PUVMP), isang buwan bago matapos ang extension na ibinigay ni Pangulong Marcos.
Iniugnay ni LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III ang pagdami ng bilang sa determinasyon ng pamahalaan na ipatupad ang programa.
“Those who objected to the PUVMP have learned that their objection seemed useless because the government is determined to advance the program,” wika ng opisyal.
Subalit, mas mataas lamang ang 80-percent nationwide consolidation rate ng 3.4 porsyento kumpara sa 76.6 porsyento (katumbas ng 145,721 mula sa mahigit 190,000 PUVs) na inanunsyo ng gobyerno noong Enero.
Naganap ito bago ianunsyo ng Pangulo ang pagtatakda ng consolidation deadline mula Jan. 31 sa April 30 upang mas marami pang operators ang makalahok sa transport cooperatives o corporations.
Inilunsad noong 2017, nilalayon ng PUVMP na paghusayin ang public transport system sa bansa.
Target din nitong magbigay ng “comfortable life for all Filipinos through providing a safer, more efficient, reliable, convenient, affordable, climate-friendly and environmentally sustainable transportation system in the country.” RNT/SA
