COMPLETING 50 percent of its first socialized housing project located in Barangay Tinajeros, the Malabon City government under the stewardship of Mayor Jeannie Sandoval has vowed to provide more similar projects for the interest of her constituents in 2025.
“My administration will make sure that these proposed housing projects and programs would be realized within the year so that more of our poor constituents would benefit.”
She said her administration has prioritized building more in-city housing projects in order not to displace residents who have been living in the city, especially those in danger zones. “No one would be left behind under my administration.”
The City Engineering Department said that it made significant progress on the construction of the 11-storey Libertad 1 mid-rise housing project on Sisa Extension.
In October last year, the CHUDD launched Malabon’s socialized housing application where over 18,000 ’Malabueños’ pre-registered online signifying their interest to apply.
In 2024, the mayor awarded Certificates of Entitlement of Lot Allocation to over 440 residents whose lands were built on Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Baritan; Sangciangco Street, Barangay Catmon; Naglakar, Barangay Longos; and Orange Road, Barangay Potrero.
There were also over 642 families who relocated at St. Gregory Homes in Barangay Panghulo, an in-city housing and relocation project with 1,380 units built in partnership with the national government.
The Community and Urban Poor Affairs Office, meanwhile, said the local government is aiming to relocate around 3,014 families identified to be living near waterways at St. Gregory Homes and other housing projects for their safety and security.
Since its creation in 2023, CHUDD has actively identified, monitored, and inspected lands owned by the city government for more housing and lot allocation programs, the city administrator said.
The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development has rated the city government’s ‘Disaster Resilient, Climate Change Adaptive, and Sustainable Socialized Housing Project’ in St. Gregory Homes as ‘excellent.’
Sandoval received a plaque of commendation from the DSHUD for the city’s excellent urban housing and development efforts that provide safer homes for the residents.
