TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – Nahukay noong Lunes ng pinagsanib na koponan mula sa Philippine Army at Philippine National Police-Scene of the Crime Operatives (PNP-SOCO) ang cache ng armas ng komunistang New People’s Army (NPA) sa Carigara, Leyte.
Sa isang pahayag noong Martes, sinabi ni Lt. Col. Celeste Frank Sayson, commander ng Army’s 93rd Infantry Battalion, na ang cache ng armas na natagpuan sa Barangay Cogon ay kabilang sa mga labi ng Platoon 2 ng Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee ng NPA.
Narekober sa operasyon ang isang M16 rifle, isang hand grenade, mga bala, tatlong maiikling magazine, dalawang improvised blasting cup, subersibong dokumento, isang computer tablet, bigas, isang backpack, at iba’t ibang medical paraphernalia.
“The successful recovery of the arms cache was made possible through the strong cooperation of the community, as they reported the location to the authorities,” saad ni Sayson.
Sinabi ni Brig. Pinuri ni Gen. Noel Vestuir, kumander ng 802nd Infantry Brigade ng Army, ang pakikipagtulungan ng komunidad sa kampanya laban sa insurhensiya ng gobyerno.
“We commend our troops and the PNP-SOCO for their swift action on the information provided by the community on the location of the buried weapons. The cooperation of the community is important in our steps to put an end to the crime spree of these remaining NPA members in Carigara,” ayon kay Vestuir.
Hinikayat niya ang mga NPA sa Leyte na sumuko at samantalahin ang mga programa ng gobyerno na makakatulong sa kanila na magsimulang muli.
Noong Hunyo ngayong taon, tatlong miyembro ng parehong grupo ang napatay sa isang armadong engkwentro sa nayon ng Carigara. RNT/MND
