EMBRACING the true spirit of Christmas while spreading unity, compassion and love, the Navotas City government led by its workaholic and amiable mayor, John Reynald Tiangco, has opened the holiday season with the lighting of its giant Christmas tree and fireworks display at the Navotas Citywalk and Amphitheater.
With equally good-natured brother, Rep. Toby Tiangco, they led the ceremony and cut the ribbon for the Navotas Christmas Bazaar, which features 35 local merchants and small businesses.
The event also featured the introduction and sashing of the official candidates for Mutya ng Navotas 2026.
“Every year, we eagerly look forward to the Christmas tree lighting. It symbolizes that despite challenges we have much to be grateful for,” the mayor said.
The veteran lawmaker said that Christmas in Navotas is not just about lights and decorations, but about bringing hope and support to its constituents.
Green Zone Park opens
The mayor Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Romando Artes opened the Navotas Green Zone Park Phase 4 in Barangay North Bay Boulevard North.
For many residents, the new park holds special significance. Nestled in a densely populated community where open spaces are scarce, Green Zone Park quickly became an inviting spot for families, seniors, and children to enjoy.
The mayor underscored the city’s hopes for how residents will use and care for the new space.
“Nagpapasalamat din tayo sa MMDA sa patuloy nilang suporta at pakikipagtulungan para maging mas livable at mas environmentally resilient ang ating komunidad.”
Greener public facilities
The city government just took the right steps to improve energy efficiency and lower electricity costs in public buildings, allowing more funds to be redirected to programs that directly benefit Navoteños.
It partnered with the Department of Energy and forged a memorandum of agreement for the “Solar Solutions for Government: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Public Buildings” program.
The Navotas mayor said the initiative will help build a more efficient, economical, and responsible local government that can allocate more resources to essential services.
Under the agreement, Navotas will be among the local government units to adopt energy-efficient technologies, including LED lighting, inverter-type air-conditioning units, smart metering systems, solar photovoltaic installations, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
The project supports compliance with the Government Energy Management Program, which requires government institutions to reduce electricity and fuel consumption by at least 10%.
