A POLICE uniform represents duty, courage and sacrifice. But behind every uniform is a human being who can also fall ill, suffer disability or face a financial crisis.
When that happens, the support of the organization they serve can make a world of difference.
Eastern Police District Director PBGen. Roman Arugay understands this reality, putting personnel welfare at the heart of the Alagang EPD Program, which provides financial assistance and personal support to employees facing difficult circumstances.
Three recent activities show how this commitment translates into action.
On October 9, financial assistance was extended to Pat Sushmita Ann Bangayan of the District Mobile Force Battalion.
A day earlier, EPD personnel visited PSSg Alvin Abella at his residence in Sta. Mesa, Manila, while he was undergoing medical treatment, bringing assistance for his medical and related expenses.
On October 7, the team visited Fernando Quinto, a non-uniformed personnel member of the Marikina City Police Station, at his home in Baras, Rizal. Quinto underwent amputation of his right leg following complications from diabetes.
These visits were more than ceremonial gestures. They demonstrated that concern for personnel must extend beyond police stations and official duties, especially when colleagues face serious health challenges.
Police officers and civilian employees dedicate their time and energy to public service. They carry responsibilities, make personal sacrifices and confront risks.
When illness or disability changes their lives, they deserve meaningful support from the institution they serve.
Under Arugay, Alagang EPD reinforces a culture of solidarity, reminding personnel that they are not forgotten when hardship strikes.
The program’s real value, however, lies in consistency. Assistance must reach those who need it, and compassion must remain a continuing commitment.
Arugay must sustain this effort and ensure personnel welfare remains a priority.
A police district proves its strength not only by protecting the public, but also by standing firmly beside its own.
