MANILA, Philippines – Opisyal nang idineklara ni Pope Francis si Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David bilang isang cardinal.
Siya na ang ika-10 Filipino na mayroon ng naturang titulo.
Sa public consistory na isinagawa sa St. Peter’s Basilica nitong Sabado, Disyembre 7, lumikha ang pontiff ng 21 cardinal kasama si David.
Karamihan sa mga ito ay kilalang personalidad na may kaparehong pastoral style at theological convictions.
Si David, ang kasalukuyang pangulo ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), na nakatanggap ng red biretta at cardinalatial ring mula sa Papa.
Pula ang itinatalagang kulay para sa mga cardinal at sumisimbolo ng kanilang kahandaan na maging martir sa pananampalatayang Katoliko.
Nagpahayag naman ng kagalakan ang Diocese of Caloocan sa pagkakatalaga kay David.
“This milestone highlights Bishop Ambo’s dedicated pastoral service and marks his appointment to serve the universal Church as the 10th Filipino cardinal, a great source of joy for the Philippine Church,” sinabi ng diocese.
“Cardinal David’s elevation is a testament to the vibrant faith of the local Church and its growing role within the Universal Church. This is a moment of celebration, not only for the Diocese of Kalookan but for the entire nation,” dagdag pa. RNT/JGC
