THE father-and-son-tandem of Caloocan Mayor Along Malapitan and patriarch, ex-mayor and now District 1 Rep. Oca Malapitan, has proven to be effective as far as running the affairs of the city is concerned.
This appeared to be the consensus of the concerned government officials involved in the granting of the Seal of Good Local Governance which was spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
It cited the Malapitan administration for ’its consistent excellent performance in multiple areas including financial housekeeping, disaster preparedness, business competitiveness, social protection, and public safety.’
Visibly-delighted, the younger Malapitan congratulated all his colleagues in the city government and acknowledged their contributions in ensuring that the programs of his administration are effectively and efficiently felt by his constituents.
“My father, a former mayor for three consecutive terms (nine years), and I are more inspired now to do more and the best for our constituents and the city as a whole.”
He stressed that achieving the highest standards of public service wasn’t impossible as long as “we work together and remain united.”
The SGLG is an institutionalized award, incentive, and recognition-based program of the national government which aims to raise a culture of good governance.
Hailed as country’s No. 1 in disaster response
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has awarded the ‘Gawad Kalasag’ Seal to the Caloocan mayor after the Office of Civil Defense – National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council declared the city as the Best Highly-Urbanized City in the country.
The recognition was specifically meant for Caloocan’s ‘excellent’ Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance programs, the OCD-NDRRMC said.
It said that Caloocan was cited for its ’beyond compliant’ innovations in integrating internationally-accepted and sustainable DRRM policies in its practices as well as ensuring disaster preparedness in all levels, which included the establishment of several alert and monitoring stations in the city’s strategic areas and “the consistent excellent services provided by its very own emergency hotline, 888-ALONG.”
Malapitan expressed his pride in receiving the distinction and noted that this was both a culmination of his promise to be one of the top local government units in DRRM as well as a challenge to continuously upgrade and develop the already-excellent programs in place.
