MANILA, Philippines – Nagpadala ang European Union Election Observation Mission ng 200 observers sa paparating na halalan sa Pilipinas.
Layon nitong suriin kung pasok sa international standards ang halalan na isasagawa sa bansa.
Ayon sa EU mission, na pangungunahan ni chief observer Marta Temido, mandato nilang suriin ang electoral process at kung tumutugon ito sa Konstitusyon at mga batas ng bansa.
Nakarating na sa Pilipinas ang 72 observers at inaasahan ang 100 pang mga darating sa bansa sa mga susunod na linggo.
“It is very important to remember that we are not here to validate results or to legitimize the process, we are here to observe, we are here to assess if international standards, the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines and its laws are respected or not. This is the result of our job, of our work,” ani Temido.
Sinabi rin niya na ilalagay sa kanilang assessment report ang mga suhestyon kung paano mapabubuti ang eleksyon sa bansa.
“It is a process that every election system can develop and learn from others… We are also learning from this mission even if we try to also share,” ani Temido.
Nang tanungin naman kung may mga target silang lugar kung saan magmamasid, ang sinabi ay “everything.”
Sinabi naman ni Deputy Chief Observer Manuel Sanchez De Nogues na susuriin din nila ang mga political candidate.
“We [will] observe the campaign, political parties, we will also analyze the… candidates, voter registration and we analyze the complaints… that are filed before the Comelec and the resolutions…. It is a comprehensive observation,” ani De Nogues.
