MANILA, Philippines – Naglaan ang pamahalaan ng Japan ng P2.6 milyon upang ipambili ng refrigerated truck para sa small-scale farmers sa Ilocos Norte.
Iginawad ni Japanese Ambassador Kazuhiko Koshikawa ang grant contract sa Bacarra Multi-Purpose Cooperative sa seremonyang idinaos nitong Huwebes, Pebrero 8.
“We hope that this pilot project of procuring a refrigerated delivery truck for the Bacarra Multi-Purpose Cooperative will bring forth successful results, and prove that delivery of fresh and high-quality products to consumers can make significant contributions to improving farmers’ incomes,” ayon kay Koshikawa.
Umaasa ang envoy na sa pamamagitan ng proyekto, ang Ilocos Norte ay “play a crucial role in leading the institutionalization of the temperature-controlled supply chain” in the Philippines.
Nilahukan ni Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc ang signing ceremony.
Ayon sa Japanese Embassy, ang small-scale farmers sa Ilocos Norte ay nahihirapan sa limitadong access sa transportasyon para sa kanilang mga pananim, kaya’t umaasa lamang ang mga ito sa middlemen at nirerentahang sasakyan.
Dahil dito, resulta ang mataas na brokerage fees, kakaunting market options, at crop loss dahil sa hindi paborableng transportation conditions.
Patuloy umanong magbibigay ng suporta ang Japan sa pamamagitan ng official development assistance (ODA) nito at matulungan ang bansa na maabot ang sustainable at inclusive growth.
