THE plan of the Department of Agriculture to expand the ‘Kadiwa’ stores through possible franchising has earned the support of Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco saying this would boost the micro, small and medium enterprises  or MSMES.

“We’re optimistic that if the Department of Agriculture opens the initiative to cooperatives or even small- and medium-scale entrepreneurs, we can expand livelihood opportunities and even create jobs.”

With the administration’s direction of improving food production in the country, this approach can provide an end-to-end initiative that can improve food production and sustainability and market access for goods of Filipino farmers.

“I agree with Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel’s statement that when President Bongbong Marcos took on the role of DA chief at the start of his term, he was able to fully grasp the current situation of agricultural development in the country.”

Navotas inks MOA with fisherfolk, NPC scholars

Mayor John Rey Tiangco has signed a memorandum of agreement providing a scholarship to Navoteño students from fisherfolk families and Navotas Polytechnic College.

Ten students have qualified for the Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship under the NavotaAs Scholarship Program, awarded to family members of registered fisherfolk who excelled in the annual Top Ten Most Outstanding Fisherfolk search.

The fisherfolk scholars will get P16,500 transportation and food allowance, and P1,500 book stipend per academic year.

Meanwhile, 2,334 students have qualified for the Navotas Polytechnic College Full Scholarship Grant for the school year 2024-2025.

Navotas provides NPC full scholars with free tuition and miscellaneous fees ranging from P1,500 to P2,000 per semester.

                IRR on mentors’ allowance hailed

Congressman Toby lauded the signing of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, which would provide up to P10,000 allowance to public school teachers.

“Public school teachers continue to face diverse challenges so this additional allowance will help in easing some of their burdens and worries as they fulfill their functions as educators.”

Tiangco stressed that the allowances under this law would be extended to other public school personnel.

“Hindi lang teachers ang makikinabang dito, kundi pati mga guidance counselors, librarians, vocational instructors, pati na rin mga Mobile teachers at mga nasa Alternative Learning Systems.”
