MANILA, Philippines- Sinabi ni Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros na kailangang tiyakin ang mas malawak na pagkilala ng Pilipinas mula sa international community hinggil sa tagumpay ng bansa sa The Hague International Tribunal on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) arbitration.
Noong 2016, ibinasura ng Hague International Tribunal ang “historical” claim ng China sa malaking bahagi ng South China Sea at kinilala ang Philippine maritime claim saWPS.
Sa deliberation ng committee on foreign affairs ng Commission on Appointments (CA) sa nominasyon ni Henry Sicad Bensurto Jr. bilang ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Turkey, nitong Miyerkules, tinanong ni Hontiveros kung anong mga hakbang ang dapat isagawa upang matiyak ang mas malawak na pagkilala ng Pilipinas tungkol sa tagumpay ng bansa sa isyu sa West Philippine Sea laban sa China.
Sinabi ni Bensurto, eksperto sa United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), na dapat na may implikasyon ang tagumpay ng Pilipinas sa peace and security sa global basis
“Peace and security is more assured in the larger part of the world based on the rule of law and it is interesting also that in terms of magnitude or proportion not only mathematically but geopolitically as well,’’ aniya.
“The Rule of Law must prevail,’’ dagdag ng eksperto.
Bilang tugon sa tanong ni Congressman Rodante Marcoleta, sinabi ni Bensurto na ang Scarborough Shoal o Panatag “is ours.”
“It really means a lot for the people in our region and the people of the whole planet not only for Filipinos,” giit ni Hontiveros.
“So it is an important message that our country can share to the rest of the world,” patuloy niya. RNT/SA
