MANILA, Philippines- Inatasan ni Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner, Jr. nitong Biyernes ang lahat ng miyembro ng AFP na magsanay sa traditional Filipino martial art na Arnis.
Kasunod ito ng demonstrasyon mula sa Philippine Army Arnis Group sa pagdiriwang ng 127th anniversary ng Army sa Camp O’Donnel sa Capas, Tarlac.
“Now that we have enough instructors for Arnis, henceforth, Arnis as a martial art, will be taught to all members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, including the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Airforce,” bahagi ng talumpati ni Brawner.
“If any threat comes to our country ay kailangan kayang kaya nating depensahan. Hindi lamang tayo dumedepende sa armas, but we have to be also adept and competent in fighting with our bare hands,” wika pa niya.
Ang Arnis ay isang katutubong martial art kung saan ginagamit ang isa o dalawang patpat o “any similar implements or with bare hands and feet also used for striking, blocking, locking and grappling, with the use of the same principle as that with the canes.”
Idineklara itong “Philippine National Martial Art and Sport” noong December 11, 2009 sa pamamagitan ng Republic Act 9850 na nilagdaan ni dating Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
“Tayo ang gumawa nito, tayo ang nagimbento ng Arnis. Therefore, we should be proficient, we should be experts in Arnis,” giit ni Brawner.
“Ang dapat na pinaka-expert niyan ay ang mga sundalo ng Armed Forces of the Philippines,” dagdag niya.
Samantala, inihayag ng AFP nitong Biyernes na tatanggap ito ng mas maraming Pilipinong may kakayahan sa cybersecurity sa layunin nitong palakasin ang digital defenses.
Ani Brawner, kasunod ito ng direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na paigtingin ng AFP ang cyber capacities nito upang mapanatili ang seguridad ng bansa sa harap ng “rapid technological advancements”.
Sinabi ni Brawner na palalawigin ng AFP ang “cyber warrior group” nito.
“We are going to hire Filipinos who are really skilled in cyber pero hindi naman kinakailangan na talagang magaling na magaling na sila kasi we will train them also in cyber defense, both in passive and active defense,” wika ni Brawner sa isang panayam.
“Alam naman po natin na kapag sinabi natin na cyber, hindi naman kailangan ng mga malalaking equipment or kagamitan like ships and airplanes. We can fight in the cyber domain even with just a laptop or even celphone kayang kaya natin lumaban,” patuloy niya. RNT/SA
