MANILA, Philippines- Pinabulaanan ng isang opisyal ng Miru Systems nitong Huwebes ang mga alegasyon laban sa South Korean firm na magbibigay ng teknolohiya para sa 2025 automated elections, partikular ang akusasyong ang kasunduan nito sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) ay isang “robbery in progress.”
Sa isang panayam, sinabi ni Miru vice president Ken Cho na ang mga makina ng kompanya “can deliver better.”
Itinanggi niya ang mga alegasyon ng dating mambabatas na si Edgar Erice na mas mataas ang halaga ng 2025 polls kumpara sa mga nakaraang eleksyon, at sinabing ito ang unang pagkakataong gagastos ang pamahalaan ng P17.99 bilyon para sa AES.
Inihayag ito ni Erice sa paghahain niya ng petisyon sa Supreme Court na nagsusulong na ideklarang null and void ang kontrata sa pagitan ng Comelec at Miru.
“We were the sole bidder [for the project] and it is our strong speculation that other providers did not participate because the budget was too low… So, I think that’s not true,” wika ni Cho.
Gayundin, dumepensa si Cho sa umano’y kuwestiyonableng track record ng Miru sa ibang bansa, kung saan sinabi niyang ang mga alegasyon “come with the territory” kahit na ano pa ang technology provider.
“There will always be politically motivated people who would put out negative messages. So, that comes with the territory and I think we are more prone to that because we’re an Asian company and also that we are a technically-oriented company and we don’t do much PR,” giit ni Cho.
“We tend to ignore those because after an election, you’re bound to have some kind of negative articles just to tarnish our image. But, usually after two or three weeks at the most, that would just kind of fade away. But here in the Philippines, it’s different. You notice it’s different. It’ll still linger on. So, therefore, we have our local partners who would handle or manage our PR side, in which we are not good at,” dagdag niya.
Matatandaang lumitaw ang umano’y machine failures at pagkaantala sa eleksyon sa Democratic Republic of Congo at Iraq dahil sa Miru, subalit iginiit ni Cho na hindi totoo ang mga ito.
Gayundin, nanindigan ang Miru executive na binusisi nito ang St. Timothy Construction Corporation bago pumasok sa partnership para sa 2025 AES contract.
“We did our due diligence in finding right partners to make sure that we succeed in passing the Comelec’s requirements, including financial side. Although we do have financial security in our company, but the requirement here in the Philippines is much higher. So we decided to go with St. Timothy to take on that part,” ani Cho said, at sinabing ang construction firm ang magiging katuwang nila para sa proyekto.
Isa ang St. Timothy sa Filipino corporations na lumahok sa Miru Systems sa joint venture na nakasungkit ng P17.99-billion contract para mag-supply ng bagong sistema at automated counting machines (ACM) para sa 2025 polls.
Gayundin, kaanib ng dalawa ang Integrated Computer Systems at Centerpoint Solutions Technologies, Inc. sa joint venture para sa Comelec procurement.
Matatandaang kinuwestiyon ni Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel, at Senators Risa Hontiveros at Imee Marcos ang background ng St. Timothy, biglaang pagtaas ng kapital ng kompanya, at umano’y kaugnayan nito sa kompanyang naiulat na na-blacklist ng Department of Public Works and Highways.
