 NAVOTAS BAGS MULTIPLE AWARDS

THE Navotas City government has bagged multiple awards from various agencies in recognition for its outstanding achievements in different categories.

It obtained commendation from the Department of the Interior and Local Government for its Community-based Drug Rehabilitation Program while Department of Social Welfare and Development cited the administration of Mayor John Rey Tiangco for being the Top 2 LGU with the highest percentage of improved nutritional status under the Supplementary Feeding Program.

Ms. Karen Rose Damsani of the City Social Welfare and Development Office was also hailed as an Outstanding SFP Focal Person.

Navotas also obtained the Silver Seal of Protection from the Government Service Insurance System for its compliance to Republic Act No. 656 or the Property Insurance Law and the Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence for 2023.

Various programs for city youth unveiled

Tiangco has rolled out various programs and services for the benefit of the Navoteño youth.

He signed a memorandum of agreement providing scholarship to 21 new beneficiaries of the NavotaAs Scholarship Program while six students have qualified for the Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship offered to family members of registered fisherfolk.

Some 15 student artists were granted scholarship following the rigorous selection process conducted by special screening committees in five artistic disciplines, namely visual arts, music, dance, theater arts, and creative writing.

“Education remains to be one of our top priorities. We aim to provide Navoteño students with the highest quality of education and open opportunities for them to have the best future,” Tiangco said.

Navoteño fisherfolks get fishing nets

The Navotas mayor led in the distribution of fishing nets to registered boat owners through its Handog Lambat Program.

Some 649 small-scale Navoteño fishers received 200-meter mesh nets in eight different sizes which can be used to catch various kinds of fish, shrimps, and crabs.

“It’s always been our priority to provide our fisherfolk with opportunities to earn a sustainable livelihood. Navoteños are seasoned at fishing. We just need to supply them with necessary gears and equipment to ensure they can continuously earn enough and support their families,” the mayor said.
