NAVOTAS ELECTED OFFICIALS TAKE OATH ON CITY’S 18th ANNIVERSARY

THE Navotas City government has celebrated a milestone as the newly-elected officials led by Mayor John Rey Tiangco and brother, Rep. Toby Tiangco, took their oath at the newly-blessed Navotas Polytechnic College.

Executive Judge Ronald Torrijos administered the oath to the Tiangco brothers as well as Vice Mayor Tito Sanchez and Sangguniang Panlungsod members right on the city’s 18th Cityhood Anniversary on June 24.

The District 1 councilors were Reynaldo Monroy, Lance Santiago, Mylene Sanchez, Arvie John Vicencio, and Edgardo Maño while District 2 were Clint Nicolas Geronimo, Emil Justin Angelo Gino-gino, Cesar Justin Santos, Analiza Lupisan and Rochelle Vicencio.

The mayor said they’ve built several housing projects, over 80 pumping stations and other vital infrastructure facilities and established livelihood programs.

“All these were made possible because of political stability and the support of Cong. Toby and our city council.”

The veteran lawmaker, for his part, recalled that when he first became mayor, the biggest challenges were peace and order, uncollected garbage, rampant illegal gambling and constant flooding.

“We had to make tough decisions and implement policies that were not always popular.”

Celebrating local artistry at film fest

The 7th Navoteño Film Festival concluded with a powerful showcase of youth-driven films that honored the role of senior citizens in shaping Navotas.

With the theme “Senior: Lakas ng Nakaraan, Gabay ng Kinabukasan,” the festival highlighted how the elderly continue to guide and influence future generations.

Mayor JRT praised the participants for using their craft to amplify powerful narratives.

Public warned against AI-generated scams

Congressman Toby, House Committee on Information Communication and Technology chair, has warned the public about the rising use of artificial intelligence (AI) in scams and urged everyone to stay alert.

He cited increasing reports of AI being used to create fake transaction slips, which scammers send to deceive individuals and business owners.

“Paalala po sa ating mga kababayan, pati na rin sa mga negosyo, huwag basta-basta maniwala sa ipinapakitang resibo ng transaksyon. Mag-double check, mag-validate, dahil kayang-kaya na ngayong gumawa ng pekeng slip gamit ang AI.”

He called for stronger public awareness and vigilance as scammers continue to exploit technology to prey on unsuspecting victims.
