PREY BECOMES HUNTER? NO GOOD, NO WAY!

UNLESS rejected in the coming May 12 elections, the country is on the brink of putting someone in the highly-respected august body, someone who seems to have no knowledge on how to respect the law.

Good Riddance is referring to the controversial Rose Nono Lin who turned out to be ex-president Rodrigo Duterte’s economic adviser Michael Yang’s henchperson along with her husband Lin Wei Xiong aka Allan Lim of Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp as established during the House QuadCom’s inquiry.

Said to be the president of Xionwei Technology which operated POGO call centers through some sub-licensees, Lin is vying for a congressional post in Quezon City’s 5th District in an apparent bid to get equal leverage with those already in power and, in the long run, protect her interests – businesses to be exact.

She’s so determined that no one could stop her from wooing voters in the district even if the campaigning was banned during the Holy Week, which was now a subject of two petitions filed before the Commission on Elections which sought for her outright disqualification from the elections.

The first filed by one Ligaya A. Sta. Ana alleged that Lin disregarded the poll body’s directive for no campaigning conducted on Maundy Thursday and the second filed by a certain Karen Altar for alleged systematic and coordinated vote-buying.

In Sta. Ana’s petition, she alleged Lin’s campaign team set up a prominent red tent near Nova Plaza Mall in Novaliches on Maundy Thursday, April 17, 2025, which displayed the candidate’s nickname, ‘Ate Rose Lin, along with her distinctive rose emblem with her staff seen distributing free refreshments to passersby, which in itself constitutes another election offense.

Altar, on one hand, accused Lin and her campaign team of systematically distributing cash and sacks of rice to voters in an organized manner during the campaign period.

If the allegations are true, then what more could we expect from Lin should she find her way to the halls of Congress? It’s for these reasons that the group Digital Pinoys is calling on the Filipino electorate to reject candidates who are either linked to or allegedly own and operate POGOs as these have long been associated with human trafficking, money laundering, cyber fraud, and violent crimes.

But in Lin’s case, it’s not only the issue of POGOs but also their alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade plus the supposed anomalous transactions with which their company – Pharmally – has supposedly benefitted from.

And her election to Congress would undermine the earlier success the QuadCom had achieved. The prey becomes the hunter instead, no good, no way!
