IN crimes like kidnapping-for-ransom, time is everything. Every passing hour places a victim’s life at greater risk and deepens the fear felt by families and communities.
This is why the recent rescue of a kidnapped businessman in Nueva Ecija is more than just a solved case — it is a clear demonstration of how speed, coordination and decisive leadership can save lives.
According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), kidnapping incidents in the country have sharply declined, with no reported cases in recent months.
This improvement is largely attributed to the intensified anti-crime programs of the Philippine National Police. The Nueva Ecija case proves that these programs are not just policies on paper, but actions that deliver real, life-saving results.
In less than 24 hours, Police Regional Office 3, working closely with the Nueva Ecija police, located and safely rescued a businessman abducted at gunpoint in Cabanatuan City.
Despite a ₱5 million ransom demand, police operatives moved swiftly — tracking the victim’s stolen cellphone, recovering the getaway vehicle and arresting all suspects, including the alleged mastermind.
Because of this rapid response, the victim was saved before harm could be done.
This operation highlights a crucial shift in law enforcement: criminals are no longer given time to regroup, negotiate or escalate violence.
Under the leadership of PRO3 Director PBGen Rogelio “Pojie” Peñones Jr., police units have become more agile, better equipped and more focused on neutralizing high-risk crimes at the earliest possible moment.
The Nueva Ecija police, in particular, deserve commendation for their alertness, discipline and seamless coordination during the operation.
Speed saved a life in this case. If this level of urgency and professionalism continues, kidnapping-for-ransom may soon be remembered not as a present danger, but as a crime of the past.
Kudos to PBGen Peñones, PRO3, and the Nueva Ecija police for proving that when police act fast and act together, lives are protected and justice is served.
