SKILLS TRAINING CENTER ESTABLISHED FOR CALOOCAN PWDs ONLY

A NEW skills training center has been put up by the Caloocan City government primarily designed for the city’s persons with disabilities (PWDs), Mayor Along Malapitan said.

Malapitan, fresh from being officially reelected for the second term during May 12 midterm elections, told Good Riddance that it’s been his dream to establish such a facility – the Livelihood and Skills Training Center – that would cater only for PWDs.

“The city government has been continuously acknowledging the skills, dedication, and desire of PWDs and other members of vulnerable sectors to make a living on their own,” he said.

Immediately after its formal opening recently, the training center and its guest trainers provided free seminars for creating homemade ‘bayong’ or traditional woven bags, fabric conditioners, and liquid detergents as well as a make-up skills demonstration.

Commending all those who participated during the initial skills demonstration, Malapitan expressed hope that more PWDs would be encouraged to take part in the program.

He directed the concerned department officials and personnel to closely coordinate with other groups and organizations as well as those in the grassroot level – barangay – to enlist PWDs that they know to avail of the free skills training at the center.
