MANILA, Philippines – Itinanggi ni Deputy Speaker Janette Garin ng Iloilo ang alegasyon na may suhol o pamimilit sa naging hakbang ng House Committee on Justice na i-impeach si Vice President Sara Duterte.
Tugon ito sa ulat na may umano’y ₱1.3 bilyong “appearance fee” para sa mga miyembro ng komite.
“There is no truth to the ‘appearance fees,’ and even more so, there was no coercion,” ani Garin.
Ayon sa kanya, ang naging pasya ay base sa ebidensya laban kay Duterte. “The evidence presented against the vice president was substantial, and she failed to answer it because she chose to be absent from all the hearings,” dagdag niya.
Nagkakaisang bumoto ang 53 miyembro ng komite, 53–0 na walang abstention, para sa probable cause ng impeachment matapos ang mga pagdinig na tumalakay sa umano’y maling paggamit ng pondo, unexplained wealth, at mga banta laban sa matataas na opisyal.
Giit pa ni Garin, walang pamimilit o pera na sangkot sa boto. “There was no pressure, no directive, and no money involved. What we saw was an independent body doing its constitutional duty,” aniya.
Tinawag din niyang distraction ang mga alegasyon laban sa komite. “This narrative is meant to distract from the evidence. But the record is clear: the vote was based on facts, documents, and sworn testimony,” sabi niya.
Dagdag pa niya, hindi isusugal ng mga mambabatas ang kanilang integridad para sa walang basehang paratang. “No member of the committee would compromise their integrity for something like this.”
Hinimok din ni Garin ang kampo ng bise presidente na sagutin ang mga paratang sa tamang proseso. “If they have answers, they should present them in the impeachment process, under oath and backed by evidence.”
Inaasahang aaprubahan ng komite ang report nito para sa impeachment at isusumite sa plenaryo bago maipasa sa Senado para sa posibleng paglilitis. RNT/MND
