ECUADOR – Napatay na rin ang suspek sa pagpatay sa presidential candidate sa Ecuador na si Fernando Villavicencio habang nasa kasagsagan ng campaign event nito sa northern Quito.
“A suspect, who was injured during the shootout with security personnel, was apprehended and moved, badly injured, to the (attorney general’s) unit in Quito. An ambulance from the fire department confirmed his death, the police are proceeding with collection of the cadaver,” sinabi ng attorney general’s office nitong Miyerkules, Agosto 9.
Ayon sa Movimiento Construye, partido ni Villavicencio, inatake ng mga armadong kalalakihan ang mga opisina nito sa Quito.
Wala pang tugon ang pulisya at Interior Ministry ng Ecuador kaugnay nito.
“For his memory and his fight, I assure you that this crime will not remain unpunished,” pahayag ni President Guillermo.
“Organized crime have gone very far, but all the weight of the law will fall on them.”
Sinabi pa ni Lasso na pangungunahan niya ang urgent meeting kasama ang top security officials.
Sa opinion polls bago ang eleksyon, si Villavicencio ay ikalima sa walong presidential candidates.
Si Villavicencio rin ay dating miyembro ng unyon sa state oil company na Petroecuador at naging mamamahayag na bumatikos sa milyon-milyong oil contract losses.
Mahigpit na kritiko rin ito ng dating Pangulo na si Rafael Correa at sinentensyahan ng 18 buwang pagkakulong dahil sa naging pahayag niya laban sa dating presidente. RNT/JGC
