VALENZUELA Mayor Wes Gatchalian has hailed the decision of the city’s People’s Law Enforcement Board which dismissed from service the two members of the Manila Police District who figured in the July 15, 2024 road-rage incident involving a local traffic enforcer.
“I wanted to make sure that these two abusive policemen would be held liable accordance with the law,” Gatchalian said in reference to PSSgs. Ernesto Camacho Jr. and Masong Cabudoy, both assigned at Delpan Police Station.
“There is no place here in Valenzuela for rude and boastful policemen. We would not tolerate bad lawmen here, especially those who think they were superior to our traffic enforcers who were simply doing their job,” said Gatchalian when interviewed by the Good Riddance.
Records showed that the city chief executive even personally assisted the victim, Ronaldo David, 43, a local traffic aid, in filing the case before the Metropolitan Trial Court aside from the separate complaint filed before PLEB.
In a PLEB decision signed by its chairman, Councilor Ricardo Ricarr Enriquez, the two Manila lawmen were ordered dismissed from the police service.
“The respondents displayed arrogance and abuse of authority to the complainant. They were so bold and audacious to threaten the complainant into killing him.”
“Their despicable actions of pointing their guns and poking at the complainant sent a disturbing message to the people that the peacekeepers are now the violators and slayers of that peace,” it added.
Meanwhile, the MTC found Camacho and Cabudoy guilty on the charges of grave threats and physical injury filed against them.
Camacho would have to be sent to jail for 20 days, Cabudoy would serve a prison term of four months as the court ordered them to pay P5,000 and P10, 000 for moral damages, respectively.
David narrated that he’s on board a motorcycle while cruising along M. H. del Pilar Street, Barangay Mabolo when he noticed two men riding in their motorcycles without helmets while wearing only slippers.
Before he could move to accost them, the two men, who happened to be Camacho and Cabudoy, suddenly sideswiped him as they alighted and confronted the former.
Then they pulled out their firearms and poked the same at the victim’s body.
The doubly-elated Valenzuela mayor also thanked the MPD for its cooperation during the investigation and court hearings.
